HIS EVALUATION OF OTHER ARTISTS
Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky (1893-1930)
"The life of Mayakovsky consists of a continuous struggle. The names of those who fought in their lives continue to struggle against their still living enemies... Mayakovsky's name and works that are left, are going to struggle for long years against the enemies of the great revolution..."
"The common point in Mayakovsky's poetry and mine is, firstly, the fact that both transcend the ruptures between poetry and prose. Secondly, they transcend the ruptures among different genres such as lyric, satire, etc. And lastly, we both introduced political language into our poetry.
"But the forms we utilise differ. Mayakovsky is my teacher, but I don't write like him.
"In my learning years in Moscow, like Mayakovsky I was the poet of the bleachers. My poems were like an orchestra of wind instruments. I was reading my poems before the community."
